Tony Elumelu, banker and managing director, United Bank for Africa, UBA, 53, March 22. Born in Jos, Plateau State, he has two degrees in economics from Nigerian Universiies, a bachelor’s degree from Ambrose Alli University; Master of Science degree from University of Lagos. He worked in the operations and foreign exchange department, Union Bank Nigeria PLC and was also financial analyst, All States Trust Bank, 1988. Elumelu was the executive director, Linkage Assurance Company Limited, 1995 and executive director, Merchant Bank of Commerce in 1997. He retired from the UBA in 2010 as managing director/chief executive officer, but was reappointed as managing director in 2014.
