Chukwuemeka Wogu, politician, administrator and minister of labour, 49, January 29. Born in Umuahia, Abia State, he has a first degree in law from Abia State University, Masters in Public Administartion, MPA and MSc in Public Policy. He is a two-time commissioner, representing Abia State at the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC. He was also political adviser to Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia State, and before then, he was chairman of Aba South local government area in Abia State. Wogu holds several chieftaincy titles from several communities across the country.

Hamidat Doyinsola Abiola, journalist and administrator, 67, February 1. Born in Lagos, she studied at Queens College, Yaba, Lagos, 1959-1963; University of Ibadan, 1966-1969; University of Wisconsin, USA, 1970-1972, and State University of New York, USA, 1976-1979. She worked at the Daily Sketch and Daily Times of Nigeria Limited, Lagos, before she moved to the National Concord in 1980 where she rose to the position of managing director and editor-in-chief in 1985. Abiola became the first Nigerian female Eisenhower fellow in 1986, and she belongs to a number of professional associations including the Nigerian Union of Journalists; Nigeria Guild of Editors; African Communication Association, and the Nigerian Association of Professional Educators.

Bello Ahmed Salim, university teacher, former registrar and chief executive, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, 64, February 2. Born in Gwarzo, Kano State, he was educated at Government College, Keffi, 1964-1968, and Ahmadu Bello Unversity, Zaria. He also attended universities in the United Kingdom. He was lecturer at Bayero University, Kano, 1976-1996, when he was seconded to JAMB as its registrar and chief executive.

Gabriel Yakubu Aduku, architect, politician and administrator, 70, February 3. Born in Anyigba, Dekina local government area, Kogi State, he was educated at Qua Iboe Mission School, Idah, Kogi state, 1955-1956; Okene Secondary School, Okene, 1957-1963 and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 1964-1970. He was a senior partner, Archcon Nigeria, 1972-1984; chairman, Nigeria Merchant Bank Limited, 1977-1980; chairman, United Nigeria Insurance Company Limited, 1980-1983; Benue State chairman of thedefunct National Republican Convention, NRC, 1990-1991. Aduku was a minister of state for health. He is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and former president of the Nigeria Institute of Architects, NIA.
