Diezani K. Alison-Madueke, politician, former minister of petroleum resources and first female president of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, 56, December 6. Born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, she studied in England, Howard University, United States and Cambridge University. She graduated from Howard with a bachelor’s degree on December 8, 1992. She worked with Shell Petroleum Development Corporation, and became the first female executive director in Nigeria. Alison-Madueke held three significant positions in the Nigerian federal government. She was appointed transport minister, 2007; minister of mines and steel development, 2008, and minister of petroleum resources, 2010 – 2015. She was elected president of OPEC at its 166th ordinary meeting in Vienna on November 27, 2014.
