Butcher docked for allegedly cheating businessman

A butcher, Adamu Ibrahim, on Wednesday appeared in a Grade I Area Court in Karu, FCT, for allegedly cheating a businessman of N69, 700 .

The police charged Ibrahim, 45,  with three counts of criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriation.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ade Adeyanju, told the court that the complainant, Mukhtar Bala , reported the matter at Karu Police station.

He said that in March, the complainant gave the defendant meat worth N69, 700 to sell and return the money to him.

Adeyamju, said that the defendant, with the intent to cheat, dishonestly sold the meat and converted the money to his personal use.

During the police investigation, he said, the defendant confessed to the crime.

Adeyanju said that the offense contravened the provisions of sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Inuwa Wada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one reliable surety in like sum.

The Judge ordered that the surety must provide a means of identification, utility bill and a valid address which must be verified by the court registry.

He adjourned the case until July 30 for hearing. (NAN)
