A Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has ordered that a man, Nuhu Ishaku, be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a minor.

Ishaku  is charged with rape by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), contrary to Section 258 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

Magistrate Michael Bawa, however, declined to take the plea of Ishaku on grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Bawa directed the prosecutor to forward the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

He adjourned the matter untill Aug. 5 for further mention.

Earlier, the NSCDC Prosecutor, Marcus Audu, told the court that the complainant, Abigail Bitrus, reported the matter at the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre, who referred it to the NSCDC office for investigation.

Audu said that Ishaku visited the complainant’s house at Ungwan Rimi, dragged her daughter into an empty room and defiled her. (NAN)
