Champion Newspapers mourns Iwuanyanwu

THE Nigerian business and media communities are mourning the loss of a visionary leader, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a frontline businessman, publisher and esteemed member of the Nigerian Association of Newspaper Proprietors.

He passed away on July 25, 2024, at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, entrepreneurship and socio-development contributions.

Iwuanyanwu was a trailblazer in various industries, including aviation, insurance, road construction, sports and newspapering. His entrepreneurial spirit and leadership acumen transformed the business landscape, inspiring generations of entrepreneurs and business leaders.

In the media industry, Iwuanyanwu revolutionized newspaper publishing with the launch of Champion Newspapers on October 1, 1988. He introduced color printing and simultaneous printing in Lagos and Owerri, setting a new standard for newspaper production and distribution. Under his guidance, Champion Newspapers became a leading voice in Nigerian journalism, known for its in-depth reporting and analysis.

A sports enthusiast, Iwuanyanwu owned the Iwuanyanwu Nationale football club, which competed locally and continentally, bringing pride and joy to Nigerian football fans. His passion for sports development helped nurture talented athletes and promoted sports as a tool for national unity and development.

As a solid politician and patriot, Iwuanyanwu contributed significantly to Nigeria’s socio-development landscape. He worked tirelessly to promote national unity, economic development, and social justice, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers and the nation.

The Nigerian Association of Newspaper Proprietors has expressed deep condolences to the family, describing Iwuanyanwu as a “colossus of no mean repute” whose passage has created a deep void in the nation’s socio-development landscape.

 “His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift future generations of business leaders, media practitioners and Nigerians. Rest in peace, Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu,” the association said in a statement.
