CVR update: INEC records over 4m fresh registrants

THE Quarter 3, Week 1 report of the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR exercise, shows a record of an additional 4,883,658 fresh registrants.

The figure is a collation of all the new registrants from the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to the recent report which was published on INEC’s website on Monday, January 10,  2022, these figures include both online and physical registrations.

The report also showed that 2,429,242 people have completed their online and physical registration.

Part of these includes 1,687,513 youths within the ages of 18-34 years, 504,002 middle-aged persons within the ages of 35 and 49, 208,491 elderly persons within the ages of 50 and 69, and an additional 29,236 old persons within the ages of 70 and above.

In addition, while 1,223,984 males, and 1,205,258 females have completed their registration,

The new registrants also include 23,342 persons living with disability, who have completed their registration.

Realnews reports that the CVR exercise, which has so far received wide acceptance by Nigerians since it began in June 2021, is INEC’s way of providing registration opportunities for Nigerian citizens, who have attained the age of 18 and have never registered before, qualified citizens who for some reasons or another did not register in previous elections and citizens who registered, but their names were not found on the register.
