Dates for enrolling retired police officers into NHIS announced

MOHAMMED Adamu, inspector-general of police, IGP, has directed the nationwide registration and capturing of all retired police officers with effect from September 7 to September 23 for enrolment into the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS.
This came in the wake of the approval of the federal government of Nigeria for the enrolment of retired police officers into the scheme.
Realnews reports that with this development, all retired police officers, irrespective of their rank on retirement, along with a spouse, will have full access to all NHIS services and benefits covered by the Police Health Maintenance Organization, Police-HMO, Code-073.
The exercise, which shall be in three batches, will take place at the various Police Area Commands in the country.
According to a statement by Frank Mba, Force public relations officer, Thursday, September 3, all retired police officers are required to visit any Police Area Command closest to them with the following basic requirements: national identity number (compulsory); letter of retirement and retiree’s I.D card.
The nationwide registration and capturing exercise will take place in on Monday, September 7, to Wednesday, September 9 for the North-West States (Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara); North-East States (Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe); North-Central States and (FCT and Nasarawa).
The exercise will begin from Monday, September 14, to Wednesday, September 16, for South-West States (Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo) and North-Central States (Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger and Plateau).
It will hold from Monday, September 21, to Wednesday, September 23, for South-South States (Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa) and South-East States (Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo).
Also, Adamu has expressed his unfettered appreciation to the President Muhammadu Buhari for extending the National Health Insurance Scheme to retired Police officers. He noted that the development will help address the age-long quest for affordable healthcare services for police retirees and enjoins the senior citizens to take optimum advantage of the scheme.
