THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Directorate of Road Transport Services (DRTS) says it is making effort to obtain court forfeiture order on impounded motorcycles operating within the territory.

Mr Wadata Bodinga, Director, FCT DRTS said this during motorcycle  impoundment operation exercise in the city on Monday in Abuja.

Bodinga said that the ban had been in place since 2005 and was not a new development, adding that no motorcyclist had an excuse to operate.

He said that “once a vehicle is impounded in the FCT, it is gone because we will make sure we get a court forfeiture order, which means the driver can no longer get it back.

“All the relevant security agencies in FCT have come together today to curb the operations of motorcyclists within the FCT.

“Today’s operation is to stop the nuisances that are caused by okada riders in the territory.

“It is no news that these motorcycles and tricycles riders are causing nuisance within the city and it is no longer bearable and as such this is the essence of this operation.

“Today’s operation is accompanied by many security agencies because we have observed over time, that VIO personnel get attacked

“Most motorcycle riders now carry dangerous weapons, so that is why we mobilised with all forces necessary to make sure we are able to subdue them in case of any attack”.

The DRTS boss said that in spite of daily arrest being embarked upon, commercial motorcycles riders kept on operating within the city.

“We will not relent but rather continue to chase and impound their motorcycles,” he said.

Bodinga, however, warned motorcyclists to leave the city to avoid arrest and impoundment of their motorcycles.

“Motorcycle operators in the Kubwa area should stop operating before the FCT administration team, in collaboration with security agencies embark on an enforcement exercise in kubwa,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that more than 70 motorcycles were impounded by DRTS.
