MR Monday Nanza, the former Sole Administrator, Akun Development Area in Nasarawa State, has warned the residents of the area against indiscriminate dumping of refuse into gutters and other places.
Nanza gave the advice on Thursday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akun, headquarters of Akun Development Area.
He also urged the residents to always avoid activities which could have negative implications on their well-being.
Nanza underscored the need for the people to maintain healthy living so as to enhance their economic potential.
“It is the responsibility of everybody to complement the government’s efforts by keeping his or her surroundings clean, as it is often said that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.
“It is in view of this that I want to appeal to the people of this area and the state at large to keep their environment clean by refraining from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, considering its health implication on human lives.
“Indiscriminate dumping of refuse is not good for the health of the people because such refuse could be a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other vectors of diseases; this is dangerous, as it could also trigger the spread of communicable diseases.
“Besides, I advise the people to be serious with any positive activities they are doing in order to earn a living.
“They should also live in peace and be their brother’s keeper in the interest of development.
“It is only when we live in peace and tolerate one another that we could grow, and there would be speedy development in the country.
“Due to the fact that peace is an essential requirement for the development of any nation, there is need for all the citizens to embrace peace and shun all other negative acts,” he said.
Nanza also urged the people to continue to support their leaders at all levels so as to facilitate their efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to the electorate. (NAN)
