THE Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Mr Shuaib Belgore on Wednesday inaugurated 30 duty vehicles for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to enhance operational efficiency of the Service.

During the inauguration in Abuja, Belgore said that the provision of the vehicles was to ensure speedy delivery of the service’s mandate on inmates welfare.

Belgore assured that the Federal Government would remain consistent in providing more facilities for the NCoS to ensure effective service delivery.

“May I also use this occasion to thank Mr President for his support for the Ministry of Interior towards realisation of its roles in fostering and complementing internal peace and security in Nigeria.”

He said that the support for the NCoS was in the area of procurement of modern equipment and tools needed for operational, training and security to custodial centres.

Belgore commended the Controller-General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa whose stewardship had brought about tremendous transformation in the NCoS.

This, he said was evident in the renewed commitment of personnel to duty and discipline.

Earlier, Nababa said that the set of vehicles were specifically modified and designated to convey Armed Guards for different operational duties in defence of custodial centres and safe custody of inmates.

The CG said that the vehicles would scale up the ability of the personnel to provide the first line protective security required in custodial centres.

“Furthermore, with the NCoS as stakeholder in ensuring security during elections, these vehicles when deployed, will also enhance the capability of the Service.

‘This will complement the Nigeria Police Force in the forthcoming general elections.

“I wish to respectfully appreciate the efforts of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola and indeed that of the entire Civil Defence, Corrections, Fire and Immigration Board in making the year 2022 promotions a reality,” he said. (NAN)
