Former Sultan of Sokoto, Ibrahim Dasuki, Is Dead

IBRAHIM Dasuki, former Sultan of Sokoto is dead. Dasuki died in a private hospital in Abuja on Monday night. The deceased is the father to former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, who is currently facing corruption charges.

The ex-Sultan died at the age of 93. He was deposed as Sultan by the former military dictator, Sani Abacha, in 1996. Prior to becoming Sultan, he held the traditional title of Baraden Sokoto. Mr. Dasuki was the first Sultan from the Buhari line of the house of Uthman Dan Fodio.

Dasuki was a close associate of Ahmadu Bello, the late Sardauna of Sokoto, and was also a friend to late Islamic scholar, Abubakar Gumi. Dasuki was also influential in the founding of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI. He is expected to be buried according to Islamic rites on Tuesday.
