THE Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, on Tuesday, February 16, met with the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, MOMAN, to get the later to comply with the implementation of the deadline for speed limiters.

Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshall, who led top officials of the FRSC to the meeting which took place in at the Total House in Lagos, ‎told Realnews that the aim of the meeting was to get the MOMAN to comply with the presidential directive on speed limiters which begins April 1. He said before the deadline MOMAN had gone ahead with the implementation of the speed limiters. But with the meeting, the FRSC wanted them to update their data on what the MOMAN had done before. He stressed there would not be any shift of the date for the deadline and that non-compliance would be sanctioned according to the law.

Similarly, Obafemi Olawore, executive secretary, MOMAN, said the FRSC and MOMAN have been engaging with each other on the implementation of the speed limiters. He said the meeting looked at the actions of the ‎FRSC to limit road accidents involving members of MOMAN.

“The FRSC has been generous to shift the implementation. It could have taken place sometime ago but it is now coming up in April and we are all ready for the take off,” Olawore said.

“We have placed our support because at the end of the day nobody knows who will be involved in an accident. The FRSC has approved to assist us in training our drivers. Total Nigerian Plc has a training school coming up in Ibadan and FRSC is going to provide personnel to assist in the conduct of the training.”

On mobilisation of drivers to comply with the speed limiters, Olawore said: “every marketer has a form of contract with their transporters. So we have engaged them and they are ready to co-operate.”

He added: “MOMAN has some incentives. But it is a commercial arrange which he is not ready to reveal now. But there are incentives we are given them. Every marketer has their specialised incentives.”
