Prof. Muhammad Bello, Vice Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano has urged the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) to liaise with National Universities Commission (NUC) on programmes accreditation.
Mrs Ojonugwa Haruna, Head, Public Relations, COREN, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Bello made the call at a reception organised for Mr Ali Rabiu, President of COREN, by the institution in recognition of his contributions to the engineering profession.
He told the COREN president to collaborate with NUC and other regulatory bodies so as to have synergy and efficiency in programme accreditation.
The vice-chancellor, who commended COREN president for his achievements, wished him a successful tenure and advised him to be a good ambassador of his alma mata
Rabiu, in his response, said that COREN was pursuing a new policy that would strengthen the process of accreditation and certification of engineering graduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
“This will enable Nigerian graduates conform with the International Engineering Alliance (IEA) standards.
“Discussions are ongoing to make COREN accredited engineering programmes have a similar status with its counterparts at the international level,” Rabiu said.
He expressed joy over the improved infrastructure development of the university in the last 20 years which he said was as a result of good leadership.
Rabiu reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring standards and quality in the engineering programmes across the nation’s tertiary institutions. (NAN)
