THE wife of Anambra Governor, Ebelechukwu Obiano, has called on parents, guardians, caregivers to support government’s effort at containing the spread of Coronavirus pandemic among children in schools.

The First Lady made the call while speaking during her routine tour of the 21 Local Government Areas, at Aguata LG Field, on Oct. 8.

“It is not enough to say Coronavirus is not my portion without adhering to its precautionary measures.

“It is better to say Coronavirus is not my portion and support the faith with work by adhering to all the preventive protocols.

“Do not join the group that say Coronavirus is gone. People are still testing positive to the pandemic.

“It is deadly. So, you do not need to test it to believe its existence. The ball is in our court as parents, guardians and caregivers,’’ she said.

According to her, the government is distributing face masks through Local Government authorities.

“Even if it does not get to you; do yourself a favour of making sure that all your children have their face masks.

“Make sure it is washed and ready for use as they come back from school every day.

“Inculcate into your children the habit of using these face masks, washing their hands under running water with soap regularly.

“Avoid too much body contact. Stay away from fellow pupils or students by giving them distances of two metres away,’’ she advised.

The Governor’s wife said that her Non Governmental Organisation, the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFÉ, was registered in the U.S. “It has obtained tax exemptions, as such shall attract more donors.

“We will not stop assisting the less privileged, even when we are out of office,’’ she said, pleading with “the affluent in the society to live for others’’.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Ndidi Mezue, noted with regret the absence of Ekwulobia Community due to women leadership tussle in the community.

The commissioner said: “I wonder why the plea of the wife of the Governor to Ekwulobia Women to go back home and resolve the issue since last year has yet to yield the desired result.

“Women are not known for protracted troubles. When men are doing it, women are expected to advise them to `sheath the swords’.

She urged the Ekwulobia women not to allow their dispute to deny them benefits from government of the day again.
