Group advocates collective efforts to tame Nigeria’s challenges

THE National President of Gamji Heritage, Ahmed Abdullahi, has called on Nigerians to unite and deliberate on finding lasting solutions to the country’s pressing challenges

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that tje president made the call during the 2025 National Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Conference held at the Arewa House on Saturday in Kaduna .

 Abdullahi described the event as historically significant, marking a return after several years of absence.

He emphasised the importance of collective efforts in advancing Nigeria’s status as the leader of the black world and the giant of Africa.

Abdullahi highlighted the achievements of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto and the Premier of Northern Nigeria, who left a legacy of transformative institutions and projects.

” These include: Arewa House, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Bayero University Kano, the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna Polytechnic, and the Kainji and Jebba Hydroelectric Projects, among others,” the president added.

 Abdullahi stated that these initiatives have continued to shape Northern Nigeria’s educational and infrastructural development.

Reflecting on the contemporary challenges, he pointed to issues such as economic collapse, insecurity, the devaluation of the Naira, and the impacts of subsidy removal.

He also acknowledged  potential benefits of government policies.tp better the lots of Nigerians.

Abdullahi  urged  the authorities to take decisive steps to alleviate citizens’ hardships by stabilizing the Naira, reducing inflation, and lowering living costs.

He appealed to traditional rulers and the conference participants to engage in meaningful deliberations to address these issues and strengthen unity in the region.

“Our commitment to progress remains unwavering.

“With Allah’s guidance, we will overcome these challenges and build a stronger, united Nigeria,” Abdullahi concluded.

The conference, which commemorated the legacies of Sir Ahmadu Bello, provided a platform for the  stakeholders to reflect on Northern Nigeria’s history and chart a path forward for the region and the nation at large.

On his part, Gov  Uba Sani of  Kaduna state, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Muhammad Sani,  requested a report summarising the major takeaways of the event.

According to him, this is to guide his administration in improving governance and upholding the legacy of Sir Ahmadu Bello.

 He also prayed for more impactful gatherings in the future to bolster the development of the North and Nigeria in general.

In his presentation,the Vice Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Amb. Ibrahim Mai-Sule, called for unity and determination among the youths to hold elected representatives accountable.

 He emphasised the need for organisation and clarity of purpose, urging youths to overcome challenges like insecurity and divisions to ensure the government serves the people effectively.

On his part,Justice Mainasara Kogo, who spoke on ‘Leadership for National Cohesion and Stability under Contemporary Governance’,

 highlighted the late Sir Ahmadu Bello’s achievements and outlined six essential qualities of leadership

He listed them to include maturity, knowledge, sound judgment, morality, fear of God, and firmness.

Kogo stressed that addressing Nigeria’s contemporary challenges required national unity, tackling insecurity, combating corruption, revamping the economy, and investing in youth development.

Prof. Abubakar Saddique, Director-General of the Centre for Democratic Development Research and Training, Zaria, expressed concerns about leadership crises and systemic corruption.

 He urged the emergence of visionary and selfless leaders as well as emphasised that trust deficits were  undermining  national cohesion.

 He advocated collaborative efforts, adherence to the rule of law, and addressing the root causes of banditry alongside kinetic security approaches.

Hajiya Aisha Yahaya-Gusau, representing the National President, Jam’iyar Matan Arewa, Hajiya Rabi Saulawa, stressed the importance of prayers for Nigeria’s peace and the documentation of history to inspire future generations.

 NAN also reports ,that the conference highlighted critical issues such as insecurity, corruption, leadership accountability, and national unity, with the speakers urging collective efforts to build a better Nigeria.(NAN)
