THE Challenge Initiative (TCI) Nigeria and the Development Communications Network (DevComs), have advocated more investments in family planning services and health research to enhance healthy living.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed by Akin Jimo, Exceutive Director of the DevComs, and Dr Taiwo Johnson, the Chief of Party, TCI Nigeria, on Friday in Dutse.

They said that the call was part of activities lined up to commemorate the 2024 International Women’s Day (IWD).

The statement said that recognising access to comprehensive family planning services and inclusive health research were essential for women, adding that, “this will enable women to make informed decisions about their bodies, health and future, thus women can be empowered to lead healthier and contribute to sustainable development”.

They also urged stakeholders in Adamawa; Akwa Ibom, Borno, Jigawa, Kwara, Osun, Sokoto and Yobe, to prioritise investments in family planning and inclusive health research.

“By so doing, we can accelerate progress towards achieving gender equality and building a more equitable world for all Nigerians.” It said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the TCI Nigeria, promotes sustainability and local ownership while demonstrating the feasibility of long-term investment in reproductive health.

It supports Nigeria in scaling up the positive changes in reproductive health, delivered through the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) since inception in 2009.

The project is being managed by the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programmes (CCP), it provides guidance to self-selected states and partners willing to invest in family planning.

While DevComs focused on media development projects in health promotion, advocacy and capacity building in Nigerian and African continent. (NAN)
