THE Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) says it will establish school clubs to constantly engage children on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, and violence.
The National Coordinator POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday.
Amaraizu said that POCACOV and its stakeholders would soon embark on a massive nationwide campaign against cultism, drug abuse, and violence in most secondary schools across the federation.
The national coordinator said that the program would be aimed at catching them young through the establishment of POCACOV School Clubs nationwide.
According to him, POCACOV School Club is meant to raise champions that will drive the objectives of the program in their schools, neighborhoods, and homes.
“The POCACOV drawn modalities in secondary schools will feature safety and security sensitizations, school debates, school quiz competitions, and essay writing competitions.
“Other packages include awards to the best students and schools within zones and nationally.
“It is a way of catching-them-young by equipping them with the relevant information which will help them to understand the realities on ground, overcome the challenges of involvement in cultism and other vices,” he said.
Amaraizu said that the measure would help to cut the supply chain and conveyor belts of cultism, drug abuse, and violence in the society.
He maintained that the planned modalities would lead to school children discovering themselves as “future champions’’ and learning how to avoid bad friends and associates.
“We shall also use the occasion as always, to make them know various career opportunities in the Nigeria Police.
“The program will run in clusters in order to strictly maintain the COVID-19 protocols of physical distancing,’’ he added. (NAN)
