Group urges philanthropists to support orphanages

A group, ‘The Nigerian Women of Integrity’, have called on philanthropists and various groups to help bring hope and succour to children in the orphanage homes.

Amb. Cletus Amaraegbu, spokesperson of the group made the call in Abuja on Sunday in commemoration with the United Nations World Orphanage day.

Amaraegbu said these children needed help in the areas of education, medicals and food, among other needs, which was in line with the United Nations prospects for the orphans.

“We want to beg every group and individuals to come to the aid of these children, it’s not easy for the orphanage to take care of itself.

“You can see many of the children are crying, they want to go with us, I want our philanthropists wherever they are, they should visit the orphanage home to give them succor,’’ he said.

To celebrate the day, the group had gathered children of orphanage homes in Abuja in a show of love.

Amaraegbu, who convened the gathering, also called for more adoption of these children in order to foster their progress and stability.

They donated food items, medical equipment and organised dancing competitions, among other events to thrill the children.

Mr Ernest Okechukwu, Chief of Igbo Community in Nyanya, said orphanage children should not be discriminated against, rather they should be assisted with a view to assisting them to have a better life.

Okechukwu advised that management of orphanage homes to make the process of adoption easier so that interested persons can find it convenient.

He said the community was happy to contribute its quota towards the advancement of the well-being of the children. (NAN)
