THE Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), a distinguished and resolute civil rights organization, has taken the forefront in advocating for justice and unimpeachable accountability within the intricate backdrop of a growing scandal.

This controversy, which is punctuated by severe allegations of unprofessional conduct, intimidation, and harassment, has cast a pall of uncertainty over the principles of justice and due process.

The crux of the matter, as highlighted by HURIWA in a statement signed by the National Coordinator; Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko revolves around a complex and high-stakes billion-naira land deal, a transaction that has sparked widespread apprehension and raised grave concerns about potential misconduct and the subversion of established legal norms.

“In an emotional and comprehensive petition meticulously addressed to the esteemed Inspector General of Police by Lawrence SG Omotayo, KSM laid bare a troubling array of allegations that cast a long shadow on the moral and professional integrity of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Medical) Chinonyerem Lawrence.

“Central to this growing storm are accusations of audacious and persistent intimidation, as well as a blatant disregard for justice. This incendiary situation has galvanized attention and triggered alarm, owing to the gravity of claims that this law enforcement official allegedly conspired to obstruct justice and foster an environment of fear and impunity.

“At the epicenter of this unfolding narrative is Pastor Jerry Uchechukwu Eze, the spiritual shepherd of Springs of Joy Church. Pastor Eze now faces allegations of being linked to the contentious billion-naira land deal, thrusting him into a maelstrom of allegations and controversy”, HURIWA observed.

Underscoring HURIWA’s unyielding commitment to the pillars of justice and due process, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, revealed that the group stands steadfast in its pursuit of justice, devoid of prejudice or undue influence. “We ardently believe in the inalienable right of every citizen to a fair and impartial legal process.”

“The petitioner, Lawrence SG Omotayo, KSM, asserts that ACP Chinonyerem Lawrence’s conduct throughout the investigative proceedings exhibited a disturbing lack of professionalism and an apparent proclivity for partiality.

“This contentious behavior culminated in the case’s transference to the Federal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), a move that has been met with mounting skepticism and apprehension.

“HURIWA remains deeply perturbed by these allegations of misconduct and unequivocally advocates for a robust and exhaustive investigation to unveil the truth and ensure transparency”, HURIWA appealed.

The crux of HURIWA’s advocacy campaign is underlined by a fervent call for the immediate and unequivocal nullification of the contentious bail bond that has been imposed on the petitioner, Lawrence SG Omotayo, effectively transforming him into the accused.

Concurrently, the association vociferously demanded the immediate recusal of ACP Chinonyerem Lawrence from any and all future involvement in the case. These actions, according to HURIWA, are intrinsic to preserving the sanctity of justice and safeguarding the integrity of the legal process from even the appearance of undue influence.

Furthermore, Onwubiko noted that HURIWA will continue to remain steadfast in its unflinching commitment to defending human rights and championing justice in Nigeria, just as he added that through this proactive and wide-reaching advocacy endeavor, HURIWA aims to contribute to the creation of a society in which the rights of all citizens are respected, upheld, and defended, and justice stands as the unassailable foundation of a progressive and just nation.

“The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) is a distinguished non-governmental organization that is dedicated to upholding human rights and justice in Nigeria. With a storied history of unwavering advocacy across myriad social and legal spheres, HURIWA will continue to remain a steadfast advocate for justice, equity, and fairness”, Onwubiko informed.
