HYPPADEC donates 40 motorcycles to Niger Security Trust Fund

THE Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has donated 40 motorcycles to the Niger Security Trust Fund to enhanced security in the state.

The Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Yelwa, disclosed this while presenting the motorcycles at the commission’s headquarters in Minna on Tuesday.

Yelwa said the gesture is part of the commission’s commitment to boost the security architecture in the state.

He also assured that other security agencies would be considered in due course to enable them tackle any form of banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling.

Yelwa said that the commission would continue to provide logistics support to the security agencies to enhance their operations, thereby guaranteeing the security of lives and property of citizens.

He explained that the motorcycles would help to boost the efforts of the government in ensuring security in different parts of the state.

He said this kind of pragmatic intervention to all the affected HYPPADEC states will be sustained to ensure security of lives and property.

He said that the commission had released 2,500 motorcycles to various communities through their traditional rulers for the fight against insecurity.

Yelwa further directed the states HYPPADEC Coordinators to liaise with the relevant organisations in assessing the impact of recent flooding in various communities to enable the commission come to their aid.

He lamented that no fewer than 83 communities where completely wiped out due to flooding and said plans are underway to create resettlement centers.

The Niger State Security Trust Fund Chairman, Mahmud Mohammad, however, appreciated the kind gesture of the Commission, describing it as timely and laudable.

He assured that the fund would judiciously use the motorcycles to the benefits of the state.

He applauded the commission for rising up to the challenges confronting several Communities, especially in times of flooding and insecurity as well as other essential needs of the people.

He said that the motorcycles would assist the fund in the realisation and fulfillment of its constitutional mandate of protection of lives and property. (NAN)
