Infrastructure devt. my topmost priority not reelection in 2023 – Sen. Akwashiki

SEN. Godiya Akwashiki (APC- Nasarawa North), says he is giving infrastructure development across his senatorial district topmost priority in line with his campaign promises of 2019 and not on reelection.

Akwashiki who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Inter-parliamentary Affairs, and Vice Chairman of the Media and Public Affairs Committee, said this on Saturday in Lafia while answering reporters’ questions.

Infrastructure development is the construction and improvement of foundational services with the goal of sparking economic goal and improvements in the quality of life.

Infrastructure development can involve any type of infrastructure including transportation, energy, water, digital, social, and green.

Akwashiki said he was not giving a thought to contesting for another position in 2023.

The former majority leader and Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, said he wanted “to make a difference in the senatorial district by changing the lives of the people in the area positively”.

“What I will achieve at the end of my four years is my concern because I want to make a difference.

“There is what we call Zonal Intervention Project (ZIP) envelop/package in the National Assembly.

“I am using my own ZIP to develop infrastructure in my senatorial district.

“I am constructing 29 kilometers of road from Igga Brumbrum to Mada Station and wulko to Kagbu erro.

“I am developing infrastructural in Akwanga and Wamba respectively.

“Apart from that I am also providing electricity, hospitals, and building bridges to villages and communities in order to improve their standard of living.

“My primary aim is to have 6o per cent of the local roads and bridges in my senatorial district constructed,” he said.

Akwashiki thanked the youth for supporting him and helping him to actualise his senatorial dream.

“My prayer is for my people to support me, pray for me so that God will empower me to bring development to the door steps of my constituents,” he added.

He assured members of his constituency that he would provide sound and effective representation at the National Assembly to impact lives of the people not only in his constituency but in Nigeria at large.

The senator urged people of the state to support  government and pray for leaders at all levels for the dividends of democracy to reach them.

The senate committee chairman charged Nigerians to live in peace with one another, be their brothers keeper, and tolerate one another for the overall development of the country.
