Insecurity: Group advises youths to shun violence
General News
ONE Nigeria Project, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has advised young people to shun violence when agitating for their rights.
Mr Jakpa Elvis, the National Coordinator of the Project, gave the advice while addressing newsmen on Friday in Lafia.
“There cannot be a better time than now for young people to refuse to allow themselves to be used as vehicles to fuel insecurity and other vices in Nigeria.’’
Elvis said the group had concluded arrangements to organise a youth conference in July to deliberate in insecurity and youth involvement.
“We use this conference to discuss issues bothering on young people and to also chart a way forward as well as singing a new song of peace, security of life and property and empowerment for young people.
“We are all youth, we are trying to tell ourselves not to be used as vehicle for insecurity, we cannot be used as vehicle to cause problem in our country,” he said.
Elvis said he strongly believe that the youth conference would bring about solutions to the numerous challenges faced by young people in the country.
The coordinator explained that the conference was targeting young people from every ethnic nationality, noting that their voices could be better heard when speaking as one.
“We are targeting the youth of Nigeria through this project, because young people are critical stakeholders in the advancement of our dear nation,’’ he said. (NAN)
