WIFE of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has advised women to encourage their daughters to be involved in politics for betterment of the country.

Anyanwu-Akeredolu gave the admonition at a programme to commemorate the 2023 International Women’s Day, on Wednesday at Iju/ Itaogbolu,  Akure North Local Government  Area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the 2023 international Women’s Day’s is “DigitAll Innovation and Technology For Gender Equality”.

Represented by Mrs Gbemisola Ogbesetore, Chairperson of Akure North Local Government, the governor’s wife said that the time had come for women to allow their daughters to fully participate in politics like their male counterparts.

She said that every woman should actively support and embrace equity within their sphere of influence from the home to workspace.

Anyanwu-Akeredolu explained that women were being hit hard in the labour markets, especially in the technology sector, saying there was need for inclusive and transformative technology and digital education among women and girls.

According to her, time has come to embrace equity in all spheres of society, be it in the education, health sector, innovation and technology space, which will bridge the gender gap on widening economic and social inequalities.

“Over the years, we have seen some improvement in the status of women, but there are still several challenges on choices and socioeconomic wellbeing of women and girls in our society today.

“Show your children new pathways through education, technology and encourage your daughters to pursue careers in politics.

“So, through our annual Bemore Summer Boot camp, we have embraced equity in the technology and digital space by empowering young secondary school girls.

“We have trained over 2, 000 young girls in ICT and solar technology, equipped them with laptops and solar home systems to give them level playing ground with their male counterparts,,” she said.

Anyanwu-Akeredolu, who distributed safe delivery kits known as ‘Solayo Birth Kits’ to all registered pregnant women in the state, said that the gesture was part of the Akeredolu-led administration to affect women positively in the state.

In her address of welcome,  Mrs Morenike Adejoro, Head of Local Government Administration in Akure North Local Government, commended the wife of the governor for her roles in improving the lives of women in the state.

Adejoro, who said that the wife of the governor had impacted on the lives of women through her various health programmes in the state, called on women to key-in into the programmes.(NAN)
