THE Kebbi Government has trained additional 1,000 primary school teachers on English, Mathematics and Pedagogy for effective performance and efficient service delivery in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the government had in Jan. 2, 2024 trained 1,000 primary school teachers on the core subjects towards achieving the same goal.
Inaugurating the training in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, Gov. Nasir Idris, noted that the last year’s training had registered tremendous impact on the teaching and learning processes in the schools.
“This year’s training on the teaching of English, Mathematics and Pedagogy will offer a golden opportunity of another set of 1,000 teachers to benefit from the training and equip them with the necessary skills.
“This is with a view to increasing their knowledge and enhancing their skills for effective performance and efficient service delivery,” he said.
The governor, represented by the Head of Service, Alhaji Malami Shekare, assured that the training exercise would be sustained to be an annual programme in fulfilment of the pledge to make education a priority in the state.
“This is based on our sincere belief that education is the bedrock of every society and to lay a solid foundation for our young generation.
“Education at the primary and basic level must also be given a solid foundation through regular training and retraining of our teachers, motivation for the teachers, provision of standards facilities and equipment as well as ensuring the best and conducive environment for teaching and learning,” he said.
Idris also highlighted his administration’s vision for a prosperous state, saying that 21 distinguished professors of high intellectual repute and integrity had been appointed to serve as Chairmen of Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) in the state.
The appointment, he said, was to ensure that the education of their children was properly managed and government policies were effectively executed.
The governor urged the participants to take advantage of the rare opportunity and acquire necessary skills for their personnel development and for the benefit of their teeming pupils.
“Let me commend the organisers of this workshop, the Rector of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, Dr Usman Sani-Tunga, the hard work and industry of the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), Prof. Sulaiman Khalid-Jega,” he commended.
Earlier, Khalid-Jega, noted that government had made huge investment in education, saying that 789 classrooms had been made available for conducive teaching and learning environment.
“Over 16,582 units of school furniture have also been procured for distribution and by the end of this year, 1,182 classrooms would be made available for conducive atmosphere of teaching and learning.
“Over 8,462 teachers and education managers have so far been trained on sundry skills and teaching methodologies for pupils and teachers development, among others,” he said.
On his part, Sani-Tunga, said the two-week 2nd Annual Training Workshop for the teachers was organised by the state government in collaboration with Consultancy Services of the Polytechnic. (NAN)
