GOV. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara says his administration is committed to investing in agriculture and partnering with relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the problem of food insecurity.

AbdulRasaq gave the commitment on Monday in Ilorin while speaking at the “Fourth Kwara Food Summit” which was part of the state’s activities to mark the World Food Day.

The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, said one of the key mandates of his government was to support food production for the masses.

“It is also to ensure that extreme hunger and starvation are curtailed to the barest minimum,” he added.

AbdulRasaq expressed concern that in spite of the importance of food to mankind there are millions of people around the world facing chronic hunger.

“All hands must be on deck to address the hunger crisis,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was jointly organised by the state’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Kwara Agriculture Network.

It had the sub-theme “Harnessing Agricultural Potential in Kwara state: Roles of Agricultural Financing and Technical Advisory services”.

Also, the Chairman, Kwara House of Assembly’s Committee on Agriculture, Hon. Saba Gideon, pledged that the House would continue to support the state government in its effort in that sector.(NAN)
