NO fewer than 120 indigent students of Ibadan benefitted from the N1.2 million bursary awards of Omo Olore Educational Support Scheme.

The presentation was made during the  seventh remembrance prayer and lecture held in honour of Late Alhaji Lam Adesina at Gbadamosi Olowoporoku Adeshina Central Mosque, Felele, in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that each of the 120 students went home with N10,000 as bursary award.

The late Lam Adesina, a former governor of Oyo State from 1999 to 2003 on the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD), died on November 11,2012.

The event created a platform for members of the late Adesina’s political family christened ‘Lamist Political Family’ to celebrate his political ideology.

Chief Michael Koleoso, a former Secretary to Oyo State Government, called on people who shared the political beliefs of Baba Lam to come together in the interest of societal development.

Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu recounted how she was encouraged by the late Lam Adesina to join politics in the interest of development and without seeking material gains from anyone.

Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, said that the ideology of the late Adesina went beyond political party interest.

Hon Abdulwasi Musah, a former Deputy Speaker in the state and Hon Segun Olaleye, said the vacuum created by Adeshina’s death was yet to be filled by anyone till date.

Hon. Dapo Lam-Adesina, a son of the late Adesina and former lawmaker representing Ibadan South East/North East Federal Constituency, said his father believed so much in education as a means of liberation.

The former lawmaker said that beneficiaries of the Omo Olore Educational Support Scheme would continue to grow yearly.

Some of those present at the event resolved that the memory and ideology of the deceased governor must be preserved and honoured.

They agreed that the state had not been fortunate to produce another progressive governor to fill the vacuum created by late Adesina’s death.

Among the dignitaries at the event were Alhaja Sarat Adesina, wife of the late former governor, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, a former deputy governor and Mr Temi Ashamu, the State Commissioner of Energy.
