FOLLOWING the statements in a communiqué signed by Ango Abdullah, former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University and a northern elder, Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State has vehemently and publicly rejected the claims making headlines in the media that some Northern Elders have shortlisted two consensus PDP presidential candidates.

In a statement on Saturday, April 23, Lamido noted that he has consulted party leaders across the 19 Northern states and the FCT and therefore it is obvious that the media report is “only the personal opinion of those who issued the statement and not the position of the PDP members in the North”.

“The position of the Northern Elders is not only injurious to the North, but equally injurious to the northern Aspirants,” he said.

He disclosed that talks are ongoing with all the aspirants in the party with the aim of having a national consensus and a smooth national convention, which is scheduled for May 28 and 29.
