THE Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Olalekan Balogun, says ligitation is a remedy to addressing injustice arising from tussles over the position of traditional rulers in some Yoruba towns.

Oba Balogun stated this on Tuesday while addressing newsmen at his Alarere residence in Ibadan, on the occasion of his 81st birthday.

The Olubadan, who said litigation remains the beauty of democracy, noted: “As long as democracy exists, litigation will continue, because through this injustices are addressed”.

He urged all aggrieved Nigerians to embrace legal means in seeking justice, rather than engaging in violence or other unhealthy/unethical means of getting justice.

Speaking on the recent “Stand Up, Sit Down” matter involving former President Olusegun Obasanjo and some traditional rulers, Oba Balogun said Obasanjo does not disrespect tradition as being insinuated.

“It was quite unfortunate that such a thing happened, but Chief Obasanjo is a known personality who will forever lift and revere the traditional institutions,” he said.

Reflecting on his 81st birthday, the Olubadan said he has had a fulfilled life and appreciated God Almighty for all his achievements in life.

“For me to be of this age, it is only God who has been there for me. I can remember the time I was attacked and shot in the stomach by armed robbers at Challenge area in Ibadan here, I was operated upon and survived it,” he stated.

On his aspirations for Ibadan land, Oba Balogun said it was his dream to see a bigger, peaceful and prosperous Ibadan land.

He urged all sons and daughters of Ibadan land to continue doing their best for the growth and development of the ancient city.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oba Balogun was born on Oct. 18, 1942.(NAN)
