VINCENT Ezekwueme, Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organization, CLO Anambra State Branch, has called on governments at all levels to make lives meaningful to the citizens by ameliorating the excruciating hardship that they are facing.

Ezekwueme, who made the remarks when the executives and members of the Anambra Moralist Organization and Civil Society Groups came to felicitate with him on his birthday, noted that the hardship has become even worse as a result of the subsidy removal, high cost of petroleum products, transportation and hike in electricity tariffs in spite of the epileptic power supply and the skyrocketing prices of goods and services.

He lamented the abject poverty in the country in the midst of plenty and the abundance of human and natural resources bestowed on us by God.

“There is incessant insecurity, youth restiveness, agitations, unemployment, many out-school Children due to lack of funds, hunger, anger and hopelessness.

“It is noteworthy that the most essential responsibility of government is for the protection of  lives and properties of the citizens.

“I appeal to President Bola Tinubu, Governors, National and State Assembly members, and the political class to devise strategic and patriotic means of tackling unprecedented hyperinflation and provide enough palliatives to cushion the effects of hardship the citizens face on daily basis due to escalation of prices of goods and services bearing in mind that Nigeria is a mono economy as increases in petroleum products precipitate a monumental increase in goods and services.

“I will use this day of God’s mercy and love upon me to offer prayers to God for an end to insecurity, high cost of living, petroleum products, transportation excruciating sufferings, an end to the vicious cycle of poverty and restoration of absolute peace, love, unity and tranquility in the country.

“Governments should do the needful, put smiles on the faces of the citizenry and restore people’s hope, trust and faith in government.

“Governments should take the lead by reducing drastically the cost of governance and channel more resources in poverty reduction and eradication as well as creating employments for our teeming youths,” he said.
