MALTA will remain Libya’s strategic partner, including in its position on the United Nations Security Council, Maltese Prime Minister, Robert Abela, said.

Abela reiterated the country’s commitment in talks with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity of the State of Libya, Abdul-Hamed Dbeibah.

In a brief statement to the press after the meeting, the PM’s office quoted Abela as saying that Malta will continue offering its assistance to Libya to help achieve peace and stability.

Abela said climate change, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and soaring food and energy prices are having a strong impact on citizens.

Despite its small size, the island of Malta has an influence when it speaks out in favour of peace, Abela stressed.

In recent days, Libya has again seen fighting due to political conflicts.

Nevertheless, Abela emphasised his belief that solutions can be found by the Libyan people, without external assistance.

Meanwhile, the Libyan prime minister said he was confident Malta would help his country through challenging times.

During the meeting, the two parties discussed climate change, energy, education and health. (Xinhua/NAN)
