THE Moroccan police have seized three tonnes of cannabis and arrested seven suspects for alleged links to drug trafficking network, official RIM radio reported on Monday.

The operation was carried out simultaneously in different towns near the Northern city of Nador, it said.

The banned substance, concealed in dozens of packages ready to be exported by sea, was seized by police in a warehouse in the town of Oulad Tayeb and on board a car in the town of Selouane.

Seven people, aged between 20 and 39, were arrested as the investigation is being carried out to determine the international trafficking routes of the seized drug.

In spite of the efforts to crack down on cannabis during the past decade, Morocco remains one of the world’s largest producers of the narcotic plant, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. (Xinhua/NAN)
