SEN. Ayim Pius Ayim, who is one of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential aspirants in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, has made known his intentions for the country if the PDP gives him the presidential ticket for the election.

In his presentation to the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, on April 9, 2022, the 2023 Presidential aspirant informed the party why he is a better candidate to get the ticket.

He believes he will win the general elections if he is given the party presidential ticket. “If you give me the ticket of our great party, I shall surely win the general elections and return to government as president to continue the truncated good work, PDP was doing for the country.”

Ayim assured them of his competence for the job, highlighting the fact that he had held previous positions that worked alongside with the presidential position

–          As a civil servant in two parastatals in the Presidency.

–          As president of the Senate, I worked alongside a president.

–          As Secretary to the Government of the Federation, I functioned as the engine room of the presidency in the glorious PDP administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

–          I trained as a lawyer and obtained LL.B Hons, BL. And LL.M.

–          I joined the party at inception in 1998 and have remained faithful to the party till date.

–          My experience is cognate, my capacity is proven, my nationalist disposition is established and my knowledge of our country is profound.

He believes that he understands better the challenges of the nation and is at an advantaged position to tackle them given the positions he had managed in the past. He plans to rebuild and refocus the country on the path of growth, peace and prosperity.

According to him, he shall implement the party’s manifest and that his personal pathway would give meaning to the party’s manifesto. He also outlined his understanding of the problems and his solutions. “I shall outline my understanding of the problems and my evidence-informed pathway to resolving them under three broad categorizations:

-Political

-Economic

-Social integration.

Ayim listed the pathways that lead to his visions for Nigeria “to build a Nigeria all of us shall be proud of.” He also mentioned the anticipated results that will emerge from this process.

He ended his presentation with the issue of zoning, saying that he would accept whatever decision the party concluded on this matter as a true party man, but also noted that democracy thrives on three certainties;

–              Certainty of tenure

–              Certainty of structure

–              Certainty of process

According to him, if at any time any of these ‘certainties’ is no longer guaranteed, democracy will corrupt justice and enthrone inequity.

‘’Accordingly, my appeal is that zoning being a fundamental principle of our party should not be jettisoned,’’ he said.

He explained that democracy is a system of rules and order that depends on strong institutions for its sustenance and success. When a system can no longer defend its rules, it will enthrone the reign of might as against the rule of law and appealed that the party should defend Sec. 7 (3) (c) of its constitution.

He also sought the party’s prayer and partnership as he saw it as a collective journey. He also trusts that he can count on their support and goodwill at all times and that together they will make Nigeria great again.
