Nana Akufo-Addo re-elected as Ghanaian President

NANA Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, has won the 2020 presidential election in Ghana held on Monday, December 7. He defeated his closest rival and former President John Dramani Mahama by polling 6,730,413 votes (51.59 per cent).
Mahama, who contested on the platform of the National Democratic Congress, got 6,240,889 votes (47.36%).
Akufo-Addo won in eight of the 16 regions while Mahama won in the other eight.
Ghana’s Electoral Commission declared Akufo-Addo re-elected for a second term.
This is the third time the rival candidates slugged it out.
Mahama defeated Akufo-Addo in 2012, while the incumbent president won in 2016.
However, Mahama’s opposition party has cried foul.
Breakdown, without the tally from Techiman South constituency where there was shooting during collation:
Akufo-Addo 51.29%
Mahama 47.39%
Reg. Voters 17m
Turnout 78.9%
A candidate requires more than 50% to win.
Ten of the 12 candidates each received less than 1% of the vote.
