The Nigerian Navy on Tuesday said it had arrested 26 vessels and 70 persons for various offences within Lagos maritime domain in the last eight months.

The outgone Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Obed Ngalabak, made the disclosure during his handing over ceremony in Lagos.

Ngalabak, who handed over to the new FOC, Rear Adm. Oladele Daji, said that the arrest was made possible with the support of naval personnel and other security agencies.

“All these arrests are made possible because of the normal routine patrol we embark upon at sea in the command, and with the help of our Maritime Domain Awareness Facilities.

“We sight these criminals on time because of these facilities, and we send our vessels to go after them.”

“I will advise my successor to remain focus on the job; always consult his principal staff officers, and should make sure he is in tune with the directives of the CNS,” he said.

Ngalabak expressed confidence that the new FOC  would continue to sustain and improve on the successes of the command, for the betterment of the navy and the country. (NAN)
