THE Centre for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN), a Non-governmental Organisation, has cautioned against the use of military force against the military junta in Niger Republic.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed by Mr Franklyn Isong, the Director, CHRAN and Mr Vincent Aluu, the Deputy Director on Monday in Uyo.

It appealed to ECOWAS to explore diplomatic dialogue in resolving the political logjam in the country.

The condemned in strong terms the action of the military against the democratically elected President of Niger Republic and called for immediate return to democratic governance without further delay.

“We are urging the ECOWAS leaders to adopt diplomacy, deliberations, negotiations and compromise in resolving the Niger crisis.

“Military intervention may lead to collateral damages, killing of unarmed civilians, destruction of lives and property and most likely result in an ideological war involving some world powers against African countries.

“In restoring democracy, ECOWAS should consider the immediate and long-term implications of its actions on the people of the Niger Republic and the wider West African sub-region,” the group said. (NAN)
