THE Kano state government has distributed food and cleaning items to the Vesico Vaginal Fistula Patients and Children’s home as part of activities to mark the 60th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria.
A statement by Mr Fatuhu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer Ministry of Women Affairs, said the state Commissioner for information, Malam Muhammad Garba, presented the items at the VVF hostel Children’s home in Kano on Thursday.
The Commissioner, who was represented by Mrs Amina Usman, the Director, Internal Affairs of the Women Affairs Ministry, also advised the patients to adhere to the instructions of the doctors for effective and quick recovery.
Garba said that the gesture to donate the items to patients at the VVF hostel at Kwalli Municipal local government was part of the activities lined up by state organising committee to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration.
The commissioner said that the visit and donation to the VVF hostel was to lend support to the patients and to educate members of the society and their family to stop the stigmatisation of people with the condition.
The items donated included cleaning agents such as soaps, detergents, disinfectants, hand sanitizerrs and food items.
NAN reports that the members of the state’s Independence Celebration Committee included representatives of the Nigerian Police, Air Force, DSS and Federal Road Safety Commission.
