Nigerian troops have rescued more girls and women from the Sambisa Forest but one soldier died and four were wounded during the battle with terrorists on Wednesday, April 29

NIGERIAN Troops waging war against Boko Haram terrorists on Wednesday evening rescued more girls and women from the Sambisa forest, Borno State. Sadly, one of the soldiers on the rescue mission died while four were wounded.

A text message from Col S.k. Usman, acting director, Army Public Relations, which was received by 10.58PM, said that the troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army has also cleared several terrorists strong points and training camps within Sambisa Forest.

The text reads: “Please recall that we promised to keep you abreast of troops’ progress in respect of Nigerian military’s ongoing operations to rid the country of terrorists and their enclaves. In line with that, I wish to inform you that today’s evening troops of  7 Division Nigerian Army also cleared  several strong points and training camps within Sambisa forest. The troops have also rescued additional women and children. They have been evacuated to safety zone for further processing.”

According to Usman, “during the encounter unfortunately we lost a soldier while four others were wounded in action. The troops have also killed several Boko Haram field commanders and foot soldiers and destroyed 2 Buffalo vehicles mounted with anti-aircraft guns, a truck and several Hilux vehicles. The gallant soldiers also recovered one anti-aircraft gun, one general purpose machine gun, one rocket propelled grenade and several AK-47 rifles. Sadly, one woman died and eight other women sustained gun shot wounds.”

So far, the troops have destroyed nine terrorists camps in the forest. This is in addition to the four destroyed on Tuesday. The destroyed camps includes Wulari Bukar, Gangala, Auguwar Bakwai and jigide. Others include Kotorima, Lagara Bello and Lagara Fulani among others.

Despite the casualty recorded, Usman said: “I am glad to say that the troops’ morale is very high as they are poised to accomplish the task of destroying all terrorists camps and rescuing all held hostage by the terrorists.”
