THE National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on Wednesday, warned Nigerians on the safe use of browsers, saying that they needed to protect their privacy.

Mrs Hadiza Umar, Head, Corporate Affairs and External Relations of the agency, gave the warning in an advisory issued in Abuja.

Umar said that web browsers were the gateways to the vast world of information and

services available on the internet.

She added that they could offer convenience and connectivity, but it was also important to use them safely.

The official advised that people should avoid synchronising their work from Personal Computer browser with personal accounts, and vice-versa.

“By doing so, it can pose a risk to your work browser, thereby exposing you to various threats if the other device or account has been compromised.

“Should your browser issue a caution about the potential danger of the website you intend to visit, quickly close the tab.

“Regularly review and manage your browsers cookie and tracking settings, store your passwords, using password managers instead of storing them directly on the browser.

“Do not add plugins or extensions on your work browser except the ones authorised and approved, and be wary of pop-ups that are likely to redirect you to malicious sites,” she said.

She added that people should be wary of suspicious links and downloads, always logout of websites before closing the browser to ensure sessions and credentials were not retained.(NAN)
