NULGE urges termination of consultancy on salary payment

THE Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Kwara has called for the termination of consultancy on payment of salaries in the state.
The union also expressed its suppirt for the re-election bids of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of the state and Rep. Tunji Olawuyi for Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun and Oke-Ero Federal Constituency.
Mr Omoniyi Iyiola, the Chairman, NULGE, Isin chapter, said this when Olawuyi visited the union from the four local governments in the constituency in Omu-Aran on Tuesday.
Iyiola said the union had weight the past and current administrations and came to the conclusion that the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration was far better.
According to him, this administration is paying our salary as and when due, promotion is being done, “but we have not seen the one of 2022”.
He urged the governor to release the 2022 promotion for NULGE members, adding that this will boost the morale of the union.
He berated the last administration under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for failing to listen to the yearning of the union.
“The last administration suspended increment in our salary, we want the current governor to help us and also take a look at our leave bonus.
“We are using our net as gross and gross as our net. We don’t want the consultant to be paying our salary again.
“The last administration introduced it so we want this administration to remove the consultant so we can be taking our salary directly, they are doing more harm than good.”
He said the union was yet to collect the arrears that was supposed to have been paid by the consultant, while urging the governor to end the consultancy.
Responding, Olawuyi expressed happiness that everybody aknowledged what the governor was doing, noting that AbdulRazaq met a very bad situation when he assumed office.
The lawmaker said there was a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the previous administration and the consultant, which he said was difficult to terminate.
“We need to manage the consultant and very soon they will excuse us. The state government will release money for you, but the consultant will delay it deliberately,” he said.
He said the consultant did not want any progress for the administration of AbdulRazaq, adding that the APC has layers of problems left by the last government.
Speaking on the prudence of the governor, Olawuyi said AbdulRazaq has not given any politician contesting election money since the campaign began unlike in the past.
“We are sourcing money on our own to campaign for this election, which shows we are doing the right thing.”
He urged the union to be patient with the APC administration in the state, adding that the party is just four years “and you cannot compare us with those who spent 16 years”.
On the issue of promotion of members, he promised to mention it to the governor, but added that “we will not because of election do what we cannot do”.
He said to achieve such there was need for budget provision, adding that their demand is possible but might not be achieved at the moment.
“The arrears too will be looked into, the governor is a listening leader. Your welfare is important to us, we don’t want you to complain again.”
He said the bulk of APC vote should come from members of the union, urging them to come out enmasse to vote the APC on Feb 25 and in March. (NAN)
