In the re-run governorship elections held in Imo, Abia and Taraba states, candidates of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party win in two states, while the opposition All Progressives Congress wins one, but the defeated candidates have vowed to contest their defeat at the Electoral Tribunal

IT WAS two wins for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and one for the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in the supplementary governorship elections held in Abia, Taraba and Imo states on Saturday, April 25. But all the defeated candidates have vowed to go to Electoral Tribunal to upturn their defeat.
According to election result released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu of the PDP was declared winner, having polled 264,173 votes ahead of Alex Otti, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, who got 180,882 votes.
Daruis Ishaku, another candidate of the PDP in Taraba State, was also declared winner of the governorship supplementary poll. According to Kyari Mohammed, returning officer, who announced the result on Sunday in Jalingo, capital of Taraba State, Ishaku scored 369,318 votes to emerge victorious and defeat Aisha Alhassan, a serving senator, and candidate of the APC who came second with 275,984 votes, while David Kente of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, polled 29, 966 votes to emerge third.
In Imo State, it was a victory dance for Governor Rochas Okorocha, who was re-elected in the supplementary gubernatorial election. According to the election result released by the INEC, the incumbent governor and the candidate of the APC defeated Emeka Ihedioha, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives and candidate of the ruling PDP. Okorocha polled 416,996 votes as against Ihedioha’s 320,705 votes.
However, Otti, Alhassan and Ihedioha are not taking kindly to their electoral defeat. They all claimed gross irregularities in the supplementary and vowed to their cases before electoral tribunals in their states.
Making his case before journalists and supporters in Umuahia, Otti said: “Election has come and gone but the battle has just started. Evil cannot prevail over good but if it seems to prevail, it is only for a while.”
