Onyema Ugochukwu, journalist, economist, politician and former chairman, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and a gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in the 2007 election in Abia State, 71, November 9. Born in Umuahia, Abia state, he was educated at the Methodist College, Uzuakoli, 1959-1965; University of Nigeria, Nsukka, 1966-1967; (which was disrupted as a result of the civil war). He went back to the school and completed his studies in 1972, after the civil war. Ugochukwu was appointed research assistant, Central Bank of Nigeria, Lagos, in 1973. He later became editor of Business Times and later Daily Times. He was past president, Nigeria Guild of Editors, NGE.
