THE Ossomala community  in Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) has benefited from a 1-day free hernia surgery organised by the Management of General Hospital Ossomala.

The Medical Doctor in charge of the Hospital, Dr. Obiora Agwunobi said that the free medical surgeries which involved children and adults was conceived as a response to  increasing prevalence of congenital hernia and undescended testes congenital hydroceles mostly seen in male infants and children.

Another reason that informed the outreach according to the Doctor was to let the community and its environs know that Ossomala General Hospital has qualified  health personnel that can attend to various health challenges and to encourage them to seek medical attention from the hospital.

“The reasons for the increasing prevalence of congenital hernia is unknown therefore, demands research by public health experts, eurologists, gynecologists and epidemiologists within the state.

“The agrarian communities of Ossomala, Umunankwo ,Ogwuanocha, Oniya, Obeagwa, Mputu Ochuche, Ogwo-Ikoele, Odekoe, Amiyi among other communities benefited from the free surgeries at the hospitals.”

Dr. Agwunobi added the that he suspected that the nature of job/work  carried out  by people in many communities in Ogbaru might have contributed to the health condition.

He gave a brief background of the hospital and the communities it has served since its inception and the renewed hope government reforms are bringing to the hospital.

“General Hospital Ossomala is the first general hospital in Ogbaru and first secondary healthcare service delivery center established between 1977 and 1980.

It  serves over 29 communities, 6 from Delta State and 16 communities from Ogbaru LGA.

‘”The strategic position of the hospital in making health care services accessible to Ogbaru people cannot be over emphasized; I strongly believe that Governor Soludo’s health reforms will impact positively on General Hospital Ossomala”, Dr  Agwunobi explained.

He added that It is a new era for the hospital which has been the help-center of Ogbaru people in ages past, where many lives have been saved.

He reiterated that theythe Gov. Soludo’s free medical service delivery will make Ossomala General Hospital reach out to many remote communities in Ogbaru LGA.

“Lack of basic amenities  limits efficient health care service delivery,” he added.

The Medical Officer called on the state government to look into some of the challenges state  hospitals are grappling with, and find a permanent solution to the challenges.

He noted that the Ossomala general hospital is in dire need of health personnel, re-equipment, ambulance and infrastructural development.

He assured that the staff will put more efforts if adequate accommodation is provided for them within the hospital premises.

He also said that good theater and standard laboratory with basic amenities would produce more positive results.

Dr. Agwunobi thanked the Commissioner for health, who he described as indefatigable and ever-tireless in carrying out his duties to ensure that Gov. Soludo’s health  reforms are well implemented in the state .

He also commended the efforts of the Hospital administrator, Dr. Innocent Umeakunne for putting all his strength to  make sure that state hospitals lived up to their expectations of giving the people of the state the best health care service delivery they deserved.
