THE All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, campaigns ahead of 2019 has been flagged off at Ngwa High School Field, Aba, Abia State.

Alex Otti, a former bank executive, declared his interest to contest the 2019 gubernatorial election in the midst of a crowd of Abians, stakeholders and APGA faithful that trooped out en masse to support him.

Otti stressed that his interest was to restore the glory of Abia.

“I want to rescue the people from the `pharaohs of Abia’. I am therefore calling on all Abians to stand behind me to ensure that I win in 2019.

“I am offering myself again to reclaim the mandate you gave me in 2015 but was brazenly stolen.’’

He added: “I am calling on all Abians to stand behind me in ensuring victory; it is about protecting our votes. This is a collective responsibility.’’

Otti, then, urged the youths not to allow selves to be used negatively during the elections.

Governor Willie Obiano, chairman, APGA Board of Trustees, while throwing his weight behind Otti’s governorship interest, described him “as a man that has the education, pedigree, experience and humility to serve the people of Abia.’’

Obiano was represented at the event by Nkem Okeke, his deputy.

Obiano noted: “people of Abia, you need to protect your votes; that is how we recorded 21/21 victory in Anambra at the last governorship election, because Ndi Anambra stood and protected their votes.’’

“You must guard your votes and ensure government of transparency and accountability is installed in Abia,’’ he urged.

Victor Umeh, senator representing Anambra Central, noted that APGA as a party would continue to support candidates that had the interest of Ndi Igbo at heart.

Umeh, while introducing Otti as APGA governorship flag bearer in Abia, pointed out that Otti’s victory was stolen at the 2015 election.

According to him, Otti won in 14 of the 17 Local Government Areas in Abia during that 2015 General Election.

The senator thanked Otti for his resilience in re-contesting the election, urging Abians to continue to support him.

“Dr Alex Otti is a man that is trustworthy, he has the education, character, humility and fear of God to serve you people,’’ he added.

Victor Oye, national chairman APGA, who was represented by Uchenna Okagbue, APGA deputy chairman, urged Abians to ensure that APGA would be rooted in Abia in 2019.

Dozie Nwankwo, Sani Shinkafi and chairmen of various Local Governments in Anambra attended flag-off campaign.
