Ejime Utomi, traditional ruler of Aboh Umuokwe, Ogwashi-Uku, Anioma, Delta State, dies at the age of 101 and will be buried on December 29, in his hometown
THE families of Ejime Utomi in Anioma, Delta state has announce the ascension to glory of their patriarch, brother, uncle, grand and great grandfather, Ejime Utomi, a Community leader in Anioma, Delta State, Nigeria. Utomi, the Okwabani Aboh-Umuokwe, Ogwashi-uku, Headquarters of Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State died on November 1, at the glorious age of 101 years.
A charismatic self-made leader and repository of wisdom and native intelligence, Utomi, was in 1963, installed the Okwabani Aboh Umuokwe, in one of the nine major Quarters of Ogwashi Kingdom.
He commanded great respect for his uncompromising stand for truth and justice in character, conduct and oversight of the affairs of his community, his background as an only child of his mother in a closely knit polygamous family, having prepared him for inevitable leadership and the role of a fearless social-mobilizer.
As a tough disciplinarian and influential patriarch, Utomi ensured the perpetuation of royal blood in his family by marrying the daughter of then Iyase Ogwashi, Igbokei Nwawor of Agidiase Quarters, Cecilia Adaeke Utomi, who passed on in August 2007 at the age of 86. Their marriage is blessed with nine children, including three sets of twins, many grand and great grand-children. Among the children are their first set of twins, established Engineers Peter and Paul Utomi and Theresa Ojinji.
His other survivors are bankers Emmanuel Ejime and Gabriel Utomi, business woman Gabriella Utomi, “baby” of the family, Mary Utomi and Paul Ejime, a former Editor, News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, ex-Bureau Chief of continental wire service Pan-African News Agency, and now Media/Communication Consultant to ECOWAS.
Utomi will be laid to rest on Monday, December 29, at his family Compound in Aboh-Umuokwe Ogwashi after a wake keep on December 28.
