Police comb Imo forest, arrest suspected kidnappers

THE Imo State Police Command on Monday arrested five suspected kidnappers in a forest between Avu and Ihiagwa.
The suspected kidnappers were apprehended by operatives of the Imo State Police Command Special Tactical Unit led by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, in synergy with some local hunters.
The suspects, who are currently undergoing investigation, include Muazu Awuta, 30; Abdullahi Abubakar, 32; Ozeru Sabo, 25; Saddam Suleiman, 27, Bashir Yahaya, 28.
According to the statement by Henry Okoye, Police Public Relations Officer, all the suspected kidnappers are from Jau LGA of Jigawa State.
Okoye explained that the information already provided to the Police would lead to the arrest of other syndicates who are at large.
He said: “On combing the forest, two decomposing unidentified corpses suspected to be kidnapped victims and other items like telephones, wristwatches, shoes and slippers were recovered. The command intends to carry out further DNA confirmatory test to ascertain the identities of the deceased. Five operational motorcycles of the suspected kidnappers were also recovered.
“Intense operation is still ongoing in the forest and other identified black spots with the aim of stamping out all forms of crime and criminality in the state.”
