ASMAU Ndayako K. Idris, wife of the inspector-general of Police and president of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, said the current leadership of the association had concluded plans to build a hospital and maternity in Akwanga, Nassarawa State.
Besides, Idris, a princess, said that the POWA would also embark on an environmental hygiene project tagged “Our Barracks Go Clean” which would be flagged off in a few days’ time.
Speaking at the annual general meeting of the POWA on November 30, 2016 at the POWA national secretariat, Asokoro, Abuja, she assured that adequate arrangement was in top gear to provide the educational needs of Police families in Kuje and its environs.
The wife of the IGP, who was addressing her first annual general meeting since assuming office hosted wives of deputy inspectors general of Police who are part of the management team and wives of other senior police officers.
In her remarks, she gave a brief history of the association stating that the organisation was formed in 1964 by Mary Edet, wife of the then IGP.
She then highlighted the aims and objectives of the POWA as contained in its constitution and urged the officers’ wives to always abide strictly by the constitution of the association.
In addition, she used the opportunity to launch the new POWA constitution as the former was outdated and overdue for review.
