SOME prospective brides in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) got discount deals from vendors and planned their weddings on the spot at ‘The Bridal Experience.’
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the bridal networking event which held in Abuja on Sunday, which saw over fifty brides scout for the best deals for their dream weddings, was organised by renowned bridal brand Brides and Babies.
The brides, getting married between July 21, 2018 and February 28, 2019, had the opportunity of interacting with carefully selected Abuja wedding vendors in the same place.
They partook in different food and beverage samples tasting and previews of wedding entertainment, including photography, videographer and coordination.
NAN also reports that brides could be seen mingling and making notes of prices as they moved across the stands of various vendors.
There was an array of wedding planners, bakers, caterers, videographers, photographers, Masters of Ceremonies, hair and beauty technicians, makeup artists and Disc Jockeys available for brides to compare prices and make choices.
The organiser and Creative Director of Brides and Babies, Dr Halima Gidado-Mijindadi told NAN that the entire idea was to help brides have a wonderful experience while shopping for their big day.
She said, “Wedding shopping is more than just buying and is supposed to be an amazing experience that you carry with you for life.
“The bride ought to have to have the feel and it needs to be memorable because your wedding is supposed to be memorable.
“The experience of going to shop for your wedding and meeting the vendors is supposed to have a story on its own,” Gidado-Mijindadi said.
Excited prospective brides who spoke with NAN said that they appreciated the initiative as it made their wedding planning easier and smoother.
Miss Rebecca Chijioke, who is getting married in August, said that she was able to sort out the outstanding items on her wedding preparation list.
“I was especially confused about the photographer to use and my wedding cake and pastries. But all that is sorted out now and I also got other amazing services,” she said.
Similarly, Miss Mariam Danladi, who is getting married in December, told NAN that she had planned her entire wedding at the event.
“Before I came here, I was super confused about the vendors to use and the prices because as an intending bride, you hear so many stories.
“But coming here, I have gotten great discounts and gotten virtually everything I need for my wedding and I am grateful for this initiative,” Danladi said.
Meanwhile, some vendors who spoke to NAN lauded the initiative and described it as one that promoted positive synergy in the Abuja bridal industry.
Ms Adaugo Kanu, a wedding hair stylist and creative director of DugyKay Hair, said events of this kind gave opportunities for personal interactions away from the stiffness of social media.
“I love the networking platform because it gives brides and vendors the opportunity to meet personally.
“There is an interaction that is personal other than seeing the vendor’s work on Instagram and only meeting the vendor just a few weeks to their weddings.
“Most times, on social media the service looks farfetched and the brides wonder if they can afford the service.
“Some of them don’t exactly understand how the service works but at events such as this, we get to interact with them and explain the services better,” Kanu said.
Also, Mr Revival Aruoture, a wedding saxophonist popularly known as Rev Sax, told NAN that the event helped reduce the stress involved in planning weddings and also, exposed brides to better packages.
“It has made things easier for the brides instead of running around.
“You meet all vendors in one place and it takes the load off your planning and makes you focused on your wedding,” Aruoture said.
