PSARO Yornamue, journalist and former chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, 55, September 9. Born in Lumene Bangha, Rivers State, he was educated at Kabangha State School, Rivers State, Federal Teacher’s College, Nonwa-Gbam 1966-1980; West African Theological Seminary, WATS, Lagos; Imo State University, 1994-2001 and University of Port Harcourt, 2007-2009. He was appointed chief correspondent, Nigerian Tide, 1982-1984, defunct National Wave, 1988-1990; Nigerian Tribune, 1992-1995; AM News staff correspondent, 1996-1998; The Punch newspapers, Enugu Bureau chief, 1999-2000; The Guardian, Imo State editorial representative, 2000-2001; staff writer, Newswatch magazine Eastern Bureau, 2001-2003, and senior correspondent, Daily Independent, Niger Delta Desk, 2003-2005. He was elected publicity secretary, United Action for Democracy, UAD, south-east in the late general Abacha’s military junta; former general secretary, Amnesty International; former secretary, Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO, Imo and Enugu States’ Best Correspondents Award, 1999.
