Public servant in court for allegedly hurting neighbour

THE Police on Tuesday, arraigned a public servant, Uko Ete, before a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja for allegedly hurting his neighbour .

Ete who resides at Gishiri Village, FCT Abuja, is standing trial for causing hurt and giving false information.

The prosecution counsel, Stanley Nwafoaku told the court that, on Jan. 10, at about 4:30 pm, the complainant Mr Mbakwe Enujuba of Gishiri village, FCT Abuja, reported the matter at Mbushi, police station.

Nwafoaku alleged that on the same date, the complainant and the defendant had a disagreement, and in the process, the defendant used a big stick and hit the complainant on his forehead.

The prosecutor said that Enujuba sustained a big cut on his forehead, adding that the defendant also accused him of always defecating in front of his house.

Nwafoaku said during police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime.

He said that the offence contravened sections 246 and 478 of the penal code law.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Presiding Judge, Muhammed Wakili, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Wakili ordered that the surety must be reliable with a means of livelihood and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He said  that the surety must also provide a BVN print out, recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.

The Judge adjourned the matter until March.3, for hearing. (NAN)
